Terms of use

Last updated October 30, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and RaceTale when you use racetale.com or the RaceTale app. By using the service you agree to them. Questions: contact@racetale.com.

Using RaceTale

You must be an adult to have an account. A child can add moments through an invite link with a parent's agreement. If you use RaceTale for an organization, you confirm you can accept these terms for it.

What RaceTale is

RaceTale lets a runner collect photos, clips and cheers from the people who were there, and turns them into a private story, share cards, a replay and keepsake downloads. We work to keep it available and correct. We may change features. If a change would clearly reduce what a paid race includes, we will tell you in advance and you can ask us to end your use of it.

Accounts

Owners sign in with an email link. Keep your email account secure and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. Friends who add moments do not need an account and use only the invite link they were given. Please do not share an invite or story link with people the owner did not mean to include.

What you upload

You keep the rights to what you upload. You tell us you are allowed to share it, and that doing so does not break anyone's rights or the law.

You give RaceTale a licence to store, resize and display your uploads, to let our hosting providers handle them, and to make cards, a replay, a poster and downloads from them, for the people the owner shares them with. The licence ends when the content is deleted, apart from short-lived backups.

The owner sees every upload first and chooses what is published. Friends can delete their own uploads using the device they added them from.

Photos from organizers and others

Official race photos you buy from an organizer or a photo company usually come with personal-use terms. Check that yours allow sharing online before you publish them, and keep the photographer's credit in the caption if they ask for it.

We remove a photo when its rights holder, or a person in it, asks, unless a legal reason stops us, and we answer within one month. Write to contact@racetale.com or use the report button on the story. We tell the owner and, where we can, the person who uploaded it why something was removed.

Using it well

Please do not:

We may remove content and close accounts or links that break these rules.

Reporting content

Anyone viewing a story can report a photo or clip with the report button, giving the reason. The owner sees the report and decides. You can also write to contact@racetale.com, which is our contact point for reports and for authorities. We look at every report, and when content is removed because of a report we tell the people involved why where we can.

Music and map data

The music in a replay comes from tracks licensed for use in RaceTale, and each replay credits the artist and licence. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors, and the map is provided by OpenFreeMap; both are credited on the map.

Paying for Pro

Upgrading a race to Pro is a one-time payment for that race, at the price shown before you pay. There is no subscription. Friends who add photos never pay. While at least one of your races is on Pro, your account can create unlimited races. Pro belongs to the race: if that race is deleted, by you or when its time is up, its Pro features go with it, and if it was your only Pro race your account returns to the free plan and its limits. What Pro includes is listed on the home page and in the upgrade screen.

Payments are handled by Stripe. To ask for a refund, write to contact@racetale.com. If a payment is refunded in full, that race returns to the free plan and its Pro features stop. Nothing in these terms limits any right to a refund you have by law.

If you are a consumer in the EU or UK you normally have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase. Pro is digital content that starts as soon as you pay, so before paying you ask for it to start straight away and agree that your right of withdrawal ends once Pro is unlocked. We confirm this in your receipt email. This does not affect any right you have if something is wrong with what you bought.

How long a race is kept

A race and everything in it is deleted one month after the race date on the free plan, after one reminder email to the owner 7 days before. A race on Pro is kept for one year after the race date, with two reminder emails, 30 and 7 days before. Owners can delete a race or their account at any time, and deleted data cannot be restored. Deleting a Pro race also ends its Pro features. This does not affect any right you have by law. Download what you want to keep before then.

Ending your use

You can stop using RaceTale and delete your account at any time from the Profile screen. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk, and will tell you why where we can.

Our responsibility

We work to keep RaceTale available, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot replace.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or lost-profit losses, and our total liability for a claim is limited to what you paid us for the race it relates to. Nothing here limits liability for intent or gross negligence, for death or personal injury, or for anything that cannot be limited by law, or any rights you have as a consumer.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top and tell owners by email at least 30 days before a change that matters takes effect. If you do not agree, you can delete your account before then.
